Sala Agua, Acciona Pavilion

ACCIONA S.A.

Zaragoza (ES)

2008

The spiral is the symbol for transformation and change. For Expo 2008, Acciona – the Spanish provider of renewable energies – therefore chose a spiral-shaped pavilion to sensitise visitors to the importance of a sustainable approach to nature and its resources. Under the leadership of Acciona Productions y Diseño and their Creative Director Boris Mika, we realised the "Sala Agua" as an open space, which we covered with interactive real-time animations.

About

The aim of the room was to make visitors aware of the direct impact their actions have on nature, and their associated responsibility, especially in dealing with water as a resource. Four scenes formed a recurring cinematic narrative which illustrated the importance of cooperating for sustainable change. The interactive animation guided visitors' perceptions and immersed them in a world where each of their actions triggered an immediate response. The 125m2 wall served as a projection surface, whilst the floor was interactive. While the visitors let the abstract and graphic imagery of the projections take effect on them, they triggered visual reactions by touching the floor with their feet. The message was clear: every individual can contribute to collective change and pave the way for an environment worth living in.
